- The first music school in Ettelbruck was founded in 1854, and flourished under Philipp Manternach from 1881 onwards, before consolidating its position over the course of the 20th century under Emile Feltgen and Marc Jacoby.
- A school was established in Diekirch in 1893 under the aegis of Pierre Olinger, and saw significant developments under Eugène Klein (1913-1930) and Jos Kinzé (1951).
- A law passed in 1998 harmonising municipal music teaching paved the way for their merger. The towns of Diekirch and Ettelbruck established an inter-communal association in 2002, and the school officially adopted the name Conservatoire de Musique du Nord on 1 January 2003. Ever since, CNord has continued to evolve and enrich regional cultural life, initially under the direction of Marc Jacoby, followed by Adrien Théato and Sébastien Duguet.
