Keyboard instrument classes

Instruments in this group are played by pressing the keys of one or more keyboards with the fingers, or sometimes with the feet using a pedal board in the case of organs. Their popularity and complexity lie in their almost infinite possibilities for combining melody, harmony and rhythm.

Harpsichord

  • The harpsichord is an emblematic instrument of the Baroque period, with one or more keyboards, and is distinguished by its unique sound, which has been rediscovered thanks to the revival of Baroque musical practice.

Accordion - Music

Accordion

  • The accordion is a wind instrument played with two keyboards: one for the melody (right hand) and the other for the accompaniment (left hand), by compressing the air in the central bellows. It is played in classical and contemporary music, as well as in a wide range of popular and traditional music.

Chamber music: tuition in small groups

The particular demands of chamber music (the different voices are not doubled) encourage the development of specific skills in students, such as flexibility, pitch accuracy and the ability to adapt in order to broaden their musical personality.

Keyboard practice

This course is provided as individual tuition for instrumentalists other than pianists, and is both an introductory course and an approach to specialisation, with a flexible programme to meet students' needs.

Minimum age: 15 years, with sound previous instrumental training.

Improvisation

Individual tuition in musical improvisation aims to stimulate musical imagination in terms of both composition and performance, as well as broaden the capacity to understand music as a form of living thought.

It is open to all pupils, instrumentalists and singers looking for an artistic form of personal expression. Prior instrumental training (first stage) is required.

This individual tuition concentrates on organ technique: improvisation, the structure of different liturgical rites, playing preludes, interludes and postludes, accompaniment of popular and Gregorian chants etc.
